May 5, 2026, This past February we published a story announcing the City of Biddeford was "accepting proposals for the 5-Points intersection" located in the area of 392 Elm Street.

According to meeting documents, the purpose of the redesign is, "planning safety and multimodal improvements".

During tonight's City Council meeting, City Engineer Craig Chekan informed city leadership, "the city recieved four proposals from four reputable firms for the project and there was unanimous decision among leadership that Stantec was the "most qualified".

Following Chekan's remarks, councilors voted to award the 5-Points redesign contract to Stantec Consulting Services Inc.

According to Stantec's website, the company is "...a global leader in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting."

Stantec goes on to state, "Our professionals deliver the expertise, technology, and innovation communities need to manage aging infrastructure, demographic and population changes, the energy transition, and more."

The contract is not to exceed the amount of 425,000 and the funds for this contract come from a grant the city was awarded from the federal government last year (8/8/25) - in accordance with the grant, the federal government will reimburse 80% of the fees from the project.

Worth noting, City Engineer Chekan stated in an effort to involve community members, Stantec will be hosting "public engagement feedback sessions, during the planning process".
