-Prosecutor cited “public safety" as reason for objecting to lowering bail amount-

November 13, 2025, This morning a judge at the York County Superior Court in Biddeford Maine, revoked a motion to lower the bail amount for one Derick Dorais of Biddeford.

Derick has been incarcerated since a shooting that occurred this past Mothers Day (5/11/25) on Elm Street in Biddeford.

During today’s bail hearing, the defense asked for Dorais’ bail to be lowered to $1,000; this request was denied by the judge and Derick is currently being held at the York County Jail on $25,000 bail.

The prosecutor cited “public safety" as their reason for objecting to the lowering of the bail amount.

During the hearing, the prosecutor summarized the shooting that was recorded on surveillance cameras at approximately “12:44 PM in broad daylight”.

The prosecutor described that Dorais could be seen approaching a man outside of a business on Elm Street.

Dorais then leaves the parking lot and wanders into the middle of the street first shouting something at the business owner and then walking out of frame.

Several minutes later, Dorais is seen returning to the Elm Street location, and pulling a gun on the victim. The victim is seen stepping back, raising their hands, and then proceeding to turn their back to walk inside. As the victim turns around to walk inside, Dorais is then seen following the “victim back into their own business”  It is at this point that a “scuffle occurs” and the victim is shot.

Following the summary from the prosecutor, the judge agreed with their objection and denied the bail request also citing “public safety”.

If convicted, Dorais could face up to 10 years in prison and is currently looking at potential charges for aggravated assault, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, and criminal threatening.

Dorais next court appearance is scheduled for January 12, 2026 at 8:30 AM and will be conducted via zoom.
