BIDDEFORD, Maine — The University of New England (UNE) cheer team has made history, capturing its first-ever national championship title and earning the highest score ever recorded by a Maine university.
At the NCA Collegiate National Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida from April 9 to 13, UNE topped a field of 15 teams in the Intermediate All-Girl Division III category with a final event score of 96.32 out of 100.

UNE’s score also ranks the second-highest ever in their division and places the team among the top 13 overall in 2025, including Division IA, I, II, III, NAIA, and Junior College teams from across the country. More than 10,000 athletes from 470 cheer and dance teams competed in the event.
University of Maine (UMaine), the only other Maine school competing nationally, also had a zero-deduction routine and finished 6th out of 28 teams in the Intermediate All-Girl Division I category with a score of 91.78.
UNE Cheer is led by head coach Alison Bromski, assistant coach Cady Toussaint, head captain Ari Howe, and co-captains Bella Russell and Sarah Pointer.
