August 6, 2026, This past Monday, Saco City Council approved a 61-day freeze on the possible construction of any data centers located in Saco.
During the 61 day moratorium, Saco officials will work to update city code to include laws for data centers that address concerns pertaining to water supply, health, waste, and additional infrastructural considerations.
If the work to the code by the City Council is not completed upon the conclusion of the 61 days, they have the ability to vote to extend said moratorium.
