BREAKING: Biddeford 2024 Audit Delayed... AGAIN...

"I did not hear back from the auditor last week". - Cornell Knight, Biddeford Interim City Manager

August 18, 2026, After over a year of waiting with multiple delays and approval of additional expenses to cover the work, Biddeford residents were once again informed, that the City of Biddeford’s 2024 financial audit (yes you read the date right), is still not complete.

At tonight's city council meeting, Interim City Manager Cornell Knight informed Mayor LaFountain and the Biddeford City Council, that although announced at a recent meeting as assuming to be completed by today August 18, the 2024 audit is not complete - Knight simply stated, "I did not hear back from the auditor last week".

Important to note, voters in Biddeford approved bond funds at the previous election - these funds cannot be accessed until the city is current on financial audits - financial audits are required for the city to receive a "bond rating", which essentially releases the funds approved by the voters - this means all projects currently occuring that were approved (such as the current Alfred Street Sewer Separation Project), are being paid for by funds that are not technically allocated for said project - NOT TO OVERSIMPLIFY BUT... A BIT OF A "ROB PETER TO PAY PAUL SITUATION"

Knight began serving as the Biddeford Interim City Manager following the resignation of Truc Dever on April 27, 2026.

We will update this story ASAP with dollar amount the city has spent to date for the 2024 financial audit.
