"Thank you for helping us make the Biddeford Food Pantry a welcoming place for all." - Don Bisson, President and Director, Biddeford Food Pantry

August 18, 2026, Back on June 24, 2026 the Biddeford Food Pantry put out a public ask requesting assistance to "restore a community landmark"; the flower box located on the corner of Elm Street and Cutts Street.

Well folks, we're happy to report, that the community answered their call!

The request intially shared by the Pantry read, "Help Us Restore a Community Landmark..One of the first things clients see when they arrive at the Biddeford Food Pantry is our beautiful flower box.

For many years, it has helped create a warm and welcoming entrance for everyone who visits... Unfortunately, after years of exposure to Maine weather, the flower box has deteriorated significantly. The wooden walls have rotted and the structure now needs to be removed and rebuilt.".

The request went on citing the "total cost of this project is $2,450, and we are seeking community support to help cover the expense."

With the support of two regular volunteers at the Pantry, the Biddeford Public Works Department, and fiscal donations from the public, earlier today, construction began on the new flower box.

According to Biddeford Food Pantry President and Director Don Bisson, the materials for the project were purchased from Home Depot and cost approximately $3,100 - slightly more then intially expected, but achieved through the support of the local community.

Another person who really helped make this possible, Jeff Demers, Director of Biddeford Public Works, graciously allowed the disposal of the old soil free of charge, and has agreed to provide new soil.

In closing, we would like to include a message from Don Bisson, "Thank you for helping us make the Biddeford Food Pantry a welcoming place for all."
