Dear Biddeford Buzz,
In Biddeford, our economy is built by small businesses, local restaurants, neighborhood shops, and hardworking families. They are already feeling the pressure of rising costs, which is why energy affordability isn't an abstract policy debate—it's something that affects daily life.
As a small business owner and former law enforcement officer, I've seen how important reliable, affordable energy is to our community. Businesses need stable energy costs to keep their doors open, create jobs, and serve customers. Families need to know they can heat their homes, pay their bills, and get to work without energy costs stretching already-tight budgets.
That's why I appreciate Senator Susan Collins' practical approach to energy policy. She has consistently supported an all-of-the-above strategy that recognizes Maine's strength lies in a diverse energy portfolio. Hydropower, wind, solar, natural gas, backup battery storage, oil and propane, and other reliable energy sources each have a role to play in keeping our electric grid dependable, expanding our energy supply, and helping hold down costs.
For communities like Biddeford, the goal shouldn't be choosing one energy source over another. It should be ensuring that families and businesses have access to affordable, reliable energy while continuing to build a stronger and more resilient future.
Maine benefits from leaders who focus on practical solutions instead of political slogans. That kind of balanced, bipartisan approach is exactly what our state needs as we work to keep energy affordable and our economy growing.

Melissa Adams is a resident of Ward 4 and owns Dynasty Dance Centre located at 432 Elm St Ste D, Biddeford, ME.
Prior to owning the Dance Centere, Adams worked as both a corrections officer for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, and a reserve officer for the Old Orchard Beach Police Department.
Adams graduated from Southern Maine Community College in 2002 with an associates degree in Criminal Justice, and obtained a bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity from from Bellevue University in 2025.
