October 2, 2025 | Beginning on October 8, drivers in Biddeford’s downtown will notice a temporary traffic signalization change at the intersection of Main and Elm Streets. The hanging stoplights will be capped and the intersection will be controlled by temporary signals, which will be placed about 100 feet from the intersection.

This temporary traffic change will allow work to continue on the Elm Street Sewer Separation Project with minimal traffic disruption. While the portion of Elm Street between Main Street and Lincoln Street will continue to be open for southbound traffic only, all other traffic will flow normally through the intersection.
The temporary signals are expected to be in place until around October 23.
Work on Elm Street is currently expected to be completed by November 15. This sewer separation project was required by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection to keep wastewater pollution out of our rivers and streams.
