May 27, 2026, Earlier today, At-large City Councilor Marc Lessard officially submitted his paperwork to the Maine Secretary of State's office to be on the ballot for the upcoming election(s) to represent District 133.

We first reported on Lessard’s interest in running for this seat back on February 13, 2026.

Currently district 133 is represented by Democrat Marc Malon of Biddeford Maine.

Malon has held this position for two consecutive terms and is currently seeking a 3rd term running unopposed for the democratic primary seat.

Throughout Councilor Lessard’s tenure on the Biddeford City Council, he’s earned a reputation of being fiscally conservative with many in the local community going as far as referring to him as a “fiscal hawk”.

First elected to the Biddeford City Council in 1993 and since Reelected for 11 terms, Lessard is no stranger to serving his community. With his family having lived in Biddeford for 6 generations, the "Lessard name" has become somewhat of a household name in the City of Biddeford.

So why run?! When Lessard was asked "why he was running for the 133rd District seat", he responded, "I made a commitment 30 years ago that I would someday run. This is that time.... My focus as always will be for the people of Biddeford having been here six generations. With god's blessing, he will continue to provide me the vision and the path to help me support the people."

Notably, different then past elections, Lessard this time has registered as "undecleared" (independent) - because of this, he will essentially be able to bypass the June 9th primary election.

When we asked Lessard why he was running undecleared, he explained, "I was told that if I went to Augusta that with state politics you have to fall in line with leadership and vote the party line. That is not who I am. I am not taking any funding for my campaign. I will self fund everything so that I don't owe anybody anything."

In closing, Marc added, "I believe a lot of people know who I am. I was first elected to the council in 1993 and am serving my 23rd year. I am also the current Chair of the York County Budget Committee.
