May 27, 2026, The City of Biddeford is engaging the public to inform the creation of a beach management plan for Biddeford Pool beach at Gilbert Boucher Park.

Beach management supports coastal resilience through activities that protect, maintain, and restore coastal beach environments, including both the physical shoreline and ecological systems. Beach management protects ecosystems and natural resources, preserves recreational opportunities in the community, improves public safety, and positions the City to take advantage of external funding opportunities such as FEMA support or grants.

City officials are seeking public input to help identify community priorities related to Biddeford’s beaches, which will be used to inform the development of management strategies and a maintenance plan.
Residents who live near, use, or visit Biddeford Pool Beach are encouraged to complete a short online survey by June 9, 2026. The survey seeks to gather information about beach use and identify priority environmental issues.

On June 9, 2026, the City Council will hold the first public engagement session to begin to gather public feedback on the topic of beach management. At this workshop, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, Dr. Will Kochtitzky of the University of New England will present an overview of Biddeford’s changing coastline and the need for a beach management plan. Members of the public in attendance will have the opportunity to share ideas and feedback through interactive displays.
