"This is the second porch fire in the City of Biddeford this week. Please remember fire safety and proper disposal of any smoking materials."


May 20, 2026, At approximately 7:00PM this evening, the Biddeford Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire in the area of 25 Clifford Street.



In addition to BFD, Saco Professional Firefighters were also called to the scene.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and there has been no reports of injuries at this time.



At time of this post, it appears that firefighters have put out the fire and are working to investigate the situation.

FULL STATEMENT FROM BIDDEFORDFIRE DEPARTMENT RELEASED AT 10:OOPM:


"This evening shortly before 7:00pm the Biddeford Regional Communications Center received a 911 call for a building fire at #25 Clifford Street.


Biddeford Fire Department Car 7, Engine 22, Truck 32, EMS 14, Car 2 and Car 1 along with an Engine from Arundel, an Engine from Saco, an Ambulance from Goodwins Mills and an Engine from Old Orchard Beach were dispatched on the Desk Box assignment. An Engine from Sanford and an Ambulance from Scarborough covered the Biddeford Central Fire Station.


Biddeford units arrived on-scene 3 minutes later and found smoke coming from the outside porches of a 3-story wood frame apartment building. Engine 22 stretched a hose line and began extinguishing the fire, which had extended into the wall of the apartment building on the first floor and below the floor of the porches. A passerby also attempted to extinguish the fire with a garden hose prior to BFD arrival. The fire was primarily contained to the porches with some smoke extending into all the apartments.


All the occupants from had evacuated just prior to the arrival of the first Biddeford Fire units Searches of all three apartments were performed to confirm everyone was able to get outside. The apartment building was evaluated for safety by the Code Enforcement Department and Fire Department, and it was determined the occupants could return to their apartments for the night if they choose to do so.


There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.


The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Crews cleared the scene around 8:45pm.


This building fire was the 12th emergency call of the day since 8:00am this morning for the BFD. During this fire, the covering units responded to an EMS incident.


This is the second porch fire in the City of Biddeford this week. Please remember fire safety and proper disposal of any smoking materials. Also, please remember that working smoke detectors save lives. Make sure yours are in place and working. We have had three close calls this week with building fires that could have easily ended in a tragedy if the fires had not been noticed early by those that lived there and everyone was sleeping.
