đź“°BIDDEFORD | Councilor Expresses Budget Cut Concerns | Library or Essential Services (Police)

"We can't be the nucleus for York County for the homelessness situation... we can't do it for every city"

April 14, 2026, At last night's Budget Committee meeting, At-large Councilor Lisa Vadnais addressed fellow councilors outlining hey concerns contrasting cuts to essential services and municipal city funding requests.

"All these people, the essential services in our city, taking the amount of cuts that we're doing, it just doesn't seem right to give a million dollars to the library when we're taking from the police department... and the fire department... and the public's works department.

These are essential to run our city right now, and this year, in particular, because we're struggling with the budget, we're focused more on our central services... I really feel really uncomfortable taking away from essential services when we're not really sure what we're asking for seeds of hope."
