📰YORK COUNTY | Former Biddeford City Councilor Launches Campaign for York County Commission
February 9, 2026, According a public statement from previous Biddeford At-Large City Councilor Doris Ortiz, Doris has announced she will be launching her campaign to run for York County Commission to represent District 2.

Formally a Biddeford At-Large City Councilor, Doris Ortiz resigned from the Biddeford City Council in September of 2025 and cited a "recent opportunity for her and her family to relocate" as the reason.
Ortiz's full statement ragerding the York County Commission District 2 seat can be viewed below:
"Friends, I'm thrilled to announce that I am launching my campaign to run for the York County Commission to represent District 2, which includes Biddeford, Arundel, Kennebunk and Kennebunkport. If you are a registered Democrat, live in District 2 and would like to help get me on the ballot by signing my petition, please reach out to me.
Having had the privilege of serving on the Biddeford City Council for six years, I am honored to have the opportunity to represent this constituency again, as well as my new neighbors in Arundel, Kennebunk, and Kennebunkport. I appreciate your support."
According to Ortiz's biography from her time on the Biddeford City Council, Doris was born and raised in Chicago and has lived in Maine since 2000.
Ortiz believes strongly in communities that protect and serve their residents and was inspired to run for Biddeford City Council At Large in 2019 when she saw the effects of new development and investment taking hold. She's experienced the good and bad of rapid development in several other cities (Chicago, San Francisco and Portland) over the last 51 years and believes that great communities consider both long-term and new residents' needs.
As a lover of history with an Associate's Degree in accounting, Doris has made a personal study of understanding community and financial trends that work for or against the unique character and culture of a place. Coming from big cities where service workers and other residents were pushed out due to rising costs, she's witnessed how economic diversity within a community enriches the whole - both culturally and financially.
