October 21, 2025, Saco Middle School’s (SMS) own Ryan Martin—beloved physical education teacher and two-time Guinness World Record holder—is going for his third world record during “A Record-Breaking Night” on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the Saco Middle School gymnasium. Already holding the titles for Most Free Throws Made in One Hour and Most NBA Three-Pointers Made in One Hour, Martin will now attempt to break the record for Most High School Three-Pointers Made in One Hour. The number to beat is 1,372—that’s roughly 23 makes per minute, or one every 2.5 seconds!

“This isn’t just about breaking a record—it’s about bringing people together,” said SMS Physical Education Teacher Ryan Martin. “It’s an opportunity to celebrate perseverance, wellness, and school spirit in a way that’s fun and meaningful. When a community comes together around a shared goal, incredible things can happen.”

Adding to the excitement, Smokin’ Dads BBQ will be on site with a special event menu, and a portion of proceeds will benefit the SMS Mentor Program, which pairs students with positive role models to help them grow academically and personally.

Superintendent of Schools Jeremy Ray, who began his career as a physical education teacher, said this event highlights the power of passion and perseverance. “Ryan’s dedication to his craft—and to his students—is truly inspiring,” said Ray. “As someone who loves watching my own daughter play basketball, I know how much the game can teach about focus, teamwork, and resilience. Ryan embodies all of that, and I’m thrilled our community gets to cheer him on as he goes for another record.”

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for this free event. The community is encouraged to attend and help make history in Saco. The more people in the gym, the bigger the buzz—and the greater the chance a local educator will be featured once again in the Guinness Book of World Records.
