July 30, 2026,
Letter of resignation:
Mayor LaFountain, Council President Beaupre, and Fellow Councilors,
It is with a heavy heart that I submit my resignation from the Biddeford City Council due to an upcoming change in my residence that will place me outside the boundaries of Ward 4. My husband and I have been searching for a new home for well over a year.

After several unsuccessful offers on homes within Ward 4, we finally found a home that we are excited to begin the next chapter in, but it is unfortunately located outside of this ward. As a result, we will soon be listing our current home for sale.
The trust and confidence that the residents of Ward 4 placed in me to serve as their representative has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I will always be deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve this community and to work alongside my fellow councilors, city staff, and the many residents who care so deeply about Biddeford's future.
Our city is facing many significant and complex challenges. These issues have developed over many years and will require thoughtful leadership, collaboration, and persistence to address and correct.
While I wish I could continue serving alongside all of you as you work toward solutions, I must abide by the requirements of our City Charter.
Although my time on the Council is coming to an end, my commitment to Biddeford is not.
I intend to seek other opportunities to serve our community, and if I can ever be of assistance in my capacity as a former councilor, I will remain available and eager to help.
Thank you again for the privilege of serving Ward 4 and the City of Biddeford.
Sincerely,
Dylan Doughty
