📰BIDDEFORD | Opinion: We deserve a Mayor who Communicates
Cory Labrie, Biddeford Resident
“...since the election, we haven’t heard anything from our new mayor, Liam LaFountain. I find it very hard to believe that nothing news-worthy has happened in our zip code since he was elected… As a long-time citizen of Biddeford, born and raised, I am looking to hear more from our mayor.”
January 19, 2026, The last two mayors of Biddeford believed in communication and keeping the residents of Biddeford informed.

Agree or disagree with their policies, no one can argue that Mayor Alan Casavant and Mayor Marty Grohman didn’t do an excellent job posting on Facebook or other social media platforms to keep their constituents up to date.
But since the election, we haven’t heard anything from our new mayor, Liam LaFountain. I find it very hard to believe that nothing news-worthy has happened in our zip code since he was elected.
There has been a ton of social unrest in this country lately, some of which involved the state of Maine (that includes Biddeford - We have a growing immigration population here).
Again, it doesn’t matter which side of the aisle one is on, hearing from leadership to get the FACTS is not only important, it is expected. And yet…crickets.
What about the smaller stuff that probably impacts the citizens every day? Construction projects, road work, government programs, reviews, meetings, outreach programs, taxes and budget (and the spending and cutting that goes along with that), community events…the list goes on.
Mayor LaFountain is a young guy and there’s a lot he could learn from our prior mayors.
Alan Casavant set the bar pretty high on keeping everyone informed.
Marty did a great job keeping spirits high and often shared photos and short articles about our community and the programs available to help those in need (and how to volunteer or donate to said programs); Marty has even helped me and others unload leaves at our transfer station in the fall!
As a long-time citizen of Biddeford, born and raised, I am looking to hear more from our mayor. I expect to see him more at community events.
I expect…more.
