📰BIDDEFORD | City Hires New Deputy Finance Director

February 10, 2026, The city of Biddeford has recently hired Nate Colpitts as their new Deputy Finance Director.



According to the City's LinkedIn, the position was advertised as a on-site full-time position with a starting pay of approximately 94.2K per year.


The City cites the role of the Deputy Finance Director as being... "to fill a complex management position within the Finance department and support the Finance Director in oversight of various financial functions and systems throughout the City."


Nate officially began serving in this role on January 5, 2026.


When asked about his new role, Colpitts replied' "As the new Deputy Finance Director for Biddeford, I’m excited for this opportunity and look forward to working with staff while continuing to grow and serve the community."


Nate was born and raised in Maine and grew up in Scarborough. He graduated from the University of Maine–Orono in 2009 with a degree in Finance and has since built a career in municipal finance with the City of Portland, where he has worked for the past ten years.

 

Colpitts began his career in the City’s Treasury Department as a Financial Admin. In this role, Nate supported treasury clerks with daily cash-up reconciliations, processed tax payments, and handled significant portions of the City’s lien and foreclosure processes - After just under a year in this role, Colpitts was promoted to Senior Accountant.

 

As a Senior Accountant for the City of Portland, Nate worked closely with city departments to track and manage grants, maintained and reconciled all fixed assets, and assisted with various account reconciliations. After several years in this role, Colpitts was then promoted to Assistant Controller within the Finance Department.

 

As Portland's Assistant Controller, Nate supervises a Senior Accountant, a Bank Reconciliation Accountant, and three Account Clerks. In addition, Colpitts oversaw all accounts payable functions, managed City grants and fixed assets, handled the cities construction in progress (CIP), assisted in the financial management of the City’s stormwater program, and also played an integral role in preparing for and supporting the City’s annual audits.

 

Throughout Nate's career, he has developed strong skills in municipal accounting, financial oversight, and staff supervision, with a continued commitment to public service and fiscal responsibility.


When asked about the recent addition of Colpitts, City manager Truc Dever responded, "We are thrilled to have Nate as part of our leadership team. He brings great experience and enthusiasm to our Finance Department and has already hit the ground running."



For your convenience we have also included a full list of the responsibilities of the Deputy Finance Director:


• Provides leadership within the Finance Department, including coaching, mentoring, anc training;


• Offers input to the Director on team performance and performs quality assurance monitoring* • Tracks grants and capital projects, including budgets and spending


• Exercises considerable independent judgement in performance of the daily functions of the position;


• Works closely with the Payroll Specialist Accounting Clerk (AR/AP), Revenue Analyst and Deputy City Clerk*


• Responsible for all day-to-day operations of the City's finances, including the reconciliation of bank statements, posting and reconciliation of ledgers and accounts, oversight of payroll and sales tax, preparing for the annual audit, tracking capital project budgets and spending,

determining and documentina work procedures etc.


• Supervises staff and has oversight of the Finance department, including management of Finance Committee meetinas (when the Director is unavailable);


• A willingness to demonstrate a commitment to the City of Biddeford's work around diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.
