June 1, 2026, After 24 grueling hours, 11,115 made NBA three-pointers, and an unforgettable final hour fueled by the cheers of hundreds of students, Saco Middle School (SMS) physical education teacher Ryan Martin, also known as “Dr. Buckets,” has added a fifth world record title. Martin shattered the previous Guinness World Record record of 10,703 NBA three-pointers made in a 24-hour period, adding a fourth Guinness World Record to his growing list of accomplishments and cementing his place among the world's most accomplished basketball trick-shot and endurance athletes.

The record attempt began at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 31, 2026, and continued nonstop through the night and into Monday morning, June 1, 2026, in the SMS gymnasium. As the final hour approached, excitement reached a fever pitch as hundreds of Saco Middle School students packed the gym to witness history. The floor vibrated with energy as students chanted "Dr. Buckets! Dr. Buckets!" while Martin continued sinking shot after shot on his way to the record-breaking total.

"This challenge pushed me physically and mentally more than any record I've attempted before," said Martin. "There were moments throughout the night when I had to rely on discipline, focus, and the support of everyone around me. Hearing my students cheer me on during that final hour gave me an incredible boost of energy. Sharing this moment with them made it even more special."

Martin has become known for taking on extraordinary basketball challenges while promoting perseverance, goal setting, and healthy lifestyles. His world-record accomplishments include Guinness World Records for Most Free Throws Made in One Hour, Most NBA Three-Pointers Made in One Hour, Most NBA Half-Court Shots Made in One Hour, and now Most NBA Three-Pointers Made in a 24-Hour Period. He also holds the Record Setter world title for Most High School Three-Pointers Made in One Hour, a category not recognized by Guinness World Records because it does not use official NBA shooting distances.

Superintendent Jeremy Ray said Martin's achievement serves as a powerful example for students.

"Ryan's accomplishment is remarkable not only because of the record itself, but because of the lessons it teaches our students," said Ray. "Success doesn't happen overnight. It requires preparation, resilience, perseverance, and the willingness to keep going when things get difficult. Ryan models those qualities every day in his class, and our students were able to witness those lessons come to life in a truly unforgettable way."

The event drew support from students, staff, families, and community members who stopped by throughout the 24-hour challenge or tuned in through a live stream to follow Martin's progress.

While official Guinness World Records verification is pending, Martin's final total of 11,115 successful three-pointers exceeded the standing record by 412 shots, putting him firmly in position to claim his fourth Guinness World Record and fifth overall world title.

For the students who filled the gym during the final hour, however, the record was only part of the story. The loud cheers, school spirit, and shared excitement created a moment they are unlikely to forget; a moment that demonstrated what can happen when determination meets community support.
