-Scarborough Firefighters Respond to Thursday Afternoon House Fire in Pine Point-
Scarborough, Me - On Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 1:24 pm, the Scarborough Communications Center began receiving multiple calls reporting a house on fire at 26 Driftwood Lane in Pine Point. The Scarborough Marine Resources Officer (MRO) was on patrol at the Pine Point Commercial Fishing Pier and received a verbal report of the fire from a passerby. The MRO responded to the scene arriving less than 2 minutes from the initial calls into the dispatch center followed shortly by the responding apparatus from the Scarborough Fire Department.

Crews encountered heavy fire conditions on arrival and a second alarm was struck to bring in additional resources to assist Scarborough firefighters on scene. Firefighting crews made an initial entry into the structure but were removed from the building when the roof began to show signs of weakening due to the heavy fire involvement. Firefighters continued fighting the fire from a defensive position outside of the building.
Scarborough firefighters utilized the public water fire hydrants in the area but unfortunately, the amount of water being utilized to fight the house fire exceeded the capacity of the hydrant system in Pine Point. Mutual aid tank trucks responded to the fire to assist with supplying the necessary water to fully extinguish the house fire.
At the time of the fire, the house was unoccupied and there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters on scene. Fire crews cleared the scene at 7 P.M. and Driftwood Lane is re-opened to traffic.
The Maine State Fire Marshal Office responded to assist the Scarborough Fire Department with investigating the cause of the fire. At this time, the fire remains Under Investigation by both agencies.
Scarborough firefighters were assisted on scene by Old Orchard Beach Fire Department , Saco Professional Firefighters, Biddeford Fire Department, South Portland (Maine) Fire Department , Portland Maine Fire Department, and Buxton Fire & Rescue.
Portland, Westbrook and Gorham Fire Departments responded into Scarborough to cover empty firehouses.
