September 30, 2026, Sen. Henry Ingwersen, D-Arundel, is pleased to announce that MaineHousing has awarded $303,790 to Seeds of Hope in Biddeford. These funds will help them offer 55 new beds to those needing protection from the winter weather this year. Statewide, MaineHousing awarded $2.72 million in funding across 12 organizations, which will allow for 474 new beds at short-term warming shelters this winter.
“I was proud to vote for this critical funding,” said Sen. Ingwersen. “Every winter, too many of our neighbors are left to face freezing temperatures on their own. Thanks to Seeds of Hope — and others — these folks can have a safer, warmer place to go.”
According to MaineHousing, funding may be used for staffing, supplies, transportation, extended hours and other shelter operating costs. Earlier this year, Sen. Ingwersen voted in support of LD 2212, the State’s supplemental budget, which included an initiative that allocated funding to the Emergency Housing Relief Fund.
In Senate District 32, Seeds of Hope is a local organization seeking to end homelessness in the community. Every Monday, they participate in a “Monday Morning Huddle” with the City of Biddeford and other local agencies to find permanent housing solutions for the chronically unhoused population. They’re also one of the founders and current members of the Homeless Task Force, another collaborative effort dedicated to ending homelessness. Seeds of Hope belongs to the Hub 1 (York County) Homeless Initiative, a part of a series of Homeless Response Hubs in the state that are connected to the national Built for Zero Collaborative, which works to bridge efforts to end homelessness by connecting efforts across different states.
Sen. Henry Ingwersen is currently serving his second term in the Maine Senate. He is the Senate chair of the Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee. He also serves on the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee. Sen. Ingwersen represents Senate District 32, which includes Arundel, Biddeford, Dayton, Hollis and Lyman.
