đź“°BIDDEFORD | UNE Responds to City's Appeal of Saco River Corridor Commission Case

April 8, 2026, the University of New England sent the following statement to the Biddeford Buzz regarding the City of Biddeford’s recent decision to appeal the "Saco River Corridor Commission Case", please see below:

"UNE has learned that the City of Biddeford plans to appeal a York County court’s decision to dismiss the city’s lawsuit against the Saco River Corridor Commission. We strongly believe this appeal is frivolous, without any merit, and an unfortunate waste of taxpayer dollars.

Also, it has been confirmed that the City has decided to withhold lawful permits for UNE projects related to site work for the research pier and the renovation of Decary Hall. All necessary legal and regulatory requirements have been fulfilled to allow UNE to pull permits for projects approved by the Planning Board, and there is no legitimate purpose or legal basis for the withholding of these permits. As a result, UNE will file appeals with the Zoning Board of Appeals.

The City's decision needlessly creates lengthy delays and will cost both the University and the taxpayers of Biddeford a tremendous amount of wasted time and money. Despite repeated assurances from the Mayor that his goal is to work collaboratively and for the benefit of the City and the University, his actions clearly undermine those efforts."
