📰BIDDEFORD | Speaker Ryan Fecteau Endorses Liam LaFountain for Mayor

November 2, 2025, Earlier this evening Speaker Ryan Fecteau publicly announced his endorsement for Biddeford Mayoral Candidate Liam LaFountain.

Below is Speaker Fecteau's statement:

***I am supporting Council President Liam LaFountain for Mayor.***

I wasn't planning to offer public support for any of the mayoral candidates, but I read a write-up today that was entirely unfair in regards to Liam's record. So, I want to share a little bit about the Liam LaFountain that I know.

Liam is the leader Biddeford needs. Liam asks tough questions at council meetings, studies the issues facing the city, takes the time to hear from his constituents, and crafts policies that are responsive to citizens. Liam brings accountability to city management. Liam advocates for affordable housing. Liam stands by Biddeford taxpayers by making sure tax breaks aren't going to developers with little to show for it.

Here's an example of who Liam is. Last year, the council learned about a condominium conversion at the Pepperell Mill. Despite city leadership knowing it was going to happen for months, the council was told with very little notice. The condo conversion was going to leave dozens of renters with no place to go.

Liam sprung into action. He met with residents at the Mill. I attended the meeting as well. I saw someone who didn't try to offer false promises. In fact, he didn't really talk all that much. He listened. He gave his fellow resident the chance to be heard.

He left that meeting and researched how other communities handle condo conversions. He came to the next council meeting with a proposal that gave residents little more help if they wanted to purchase their unit and added protections if they couldn't make the purchase. He did all of this with little fanfare, but I noticed. I saw a leader who would go above and beyond for his neighbors.

That's who Liam is. And if you haven't decided who to support on Tuesday, I hope you will support Council President LaFountain. He's earned my support.
