November 3, 2025, Did you receive a suspicious invoice that appears to be from the City of Biddeford Planning Board?

According to the Biddeford Police Department, that invoice is not real and is a scam. The Biddeford Police are asking residents TO NOT PAY that invoice.

The City of Biddeford has been made aware of fraudulent attempts to extract money from Biddeford residents and businesses who have recently submitted applications to the Planning Board.

In this scam, the victim receives a fake invoice by email indicating substantial unpaid fees associated with the application. The perpetrators have collected and included correct information from public sources in the invoice, such as employee names, resident names, and resident addresses. The invoices may use the City seal to further attempt to add legitimacy.

Residents are advised that the City of Biddeford’s Planning Department has not sent these emails and the City will never ask for fees to be paid by wire transfer. All emails from City staff come from email addresses ending in “@biddefordmaine.org”. Business owners who live outside of the City are encouraged to contact their local Police Department to report the incident.
