Biddeford City Councilor Dylan Doughty (Ward 4) and his Fiancee Maine Speaker Ryan FecteauĀ received a phone call from Biddeford Police DepartmentĀ informing them that a threat had been made of explosives in the mailbox at their home.

Concluding an investigation by the Biddeford Police Department, FBI, and Maine State PoliceĀ Ā Bomb Unit, the threat was deemed unfounded.

Below is a statement made by Councilor Doughty regarding the incident:

"Yesterday, while I was working from home and Ryan was out of town, I received a call from the Biddeford Police Department. They told me that they received what they believed might be a credible threat of an expolsive at our home. I had to carefully leave my house and be escorted to the police station, where I waited for hours while they investigated and eventually cleared our home for me to go back.

I honestly just don’t know where we go from here as a country. I’ve seen people I’ve known my entire life and care deeply about calling democrats ā€œdomestic enemiesā€ over last two days. I’m now terrified of opening my mailbox and don’t feel safe in my home.

We all have a responsibility to turn down the divisive rhetoric. These people that are dividing us are a common enemy.

The Kirk shooting was abhorrent. The assassination of Democratic Spraker Melissa Hortman and her husband was abhorrent. The attempted shooting of President Trump was abhorrent. The list goes on and on and back and forth. None of these actions reflect us as a nation or a people. We must all rise against it, and unite as one to condemn all political violence.

It’s not a distant threat. To me and my family, it is very much a present and ever increasing reality."
