"Luckily no employees were pricked when getting the mail. With that being said, what if they were?"

July 8, 2026, This article is not to endorse or oppose needle exchange programs, however, we do feel it's important for the community to know about instances such as this - public awareness is key for community safety.

To respect and protect the local businesses and residents directly effected, we will not state exactly where this occured.

Recently, a business in downtown Biddeford has had to add a "unique label" to the mailbox outside of their business.

A note attached to said mailbox now reads, "not a sharps container".

Why, you ask? Why does the outside of a mailbox for a local business on Main Street have a note referencing syringes?

The answer - because on multiple occasions when employees went to check the mail, in addition to those pesky unwanted bills, the employees were also greeted with uncovered used needles.

Yes, you read that correctly - "uncovered used needles in their mailbox".

Luckily no employees were pricked when getting the mail. With that being said, what if they were?

If you are traveling or located in the downtown Biddeford area, please be cautious of unattended syringes.
