May 20, 2026, Biddeford High School (BHS) is proud to announce that student Jackson Wood recently performed at the prestigious Maine All-State Music Festival, showcasing his musical talent on a statewide stage. Wood was selected to perform with the elite All-State Concert Band, joining an ensemble of the finest young musicians from across Maine.
The festival, which took place at the University of Maine in Orono, culminated in a breathtaking Saturday concert at the historic Collins Center for the Arts. Wood was one of just 500 students statewide to earn a coveted spot in the festival’s various ensembles.
Earning a seat in the All-State Concert Band is a rigorous, months-long achievement. The journey began in the early fall when students from every corner of the state underwent competitive auditions. After securing their spots, selected musicians spent the winter months independently practicing complex, collegiate-level repertoire.
The festival itself demanded intense dedication. Students arrived in Orono on Thursday, May 14, 2026, embarking on two days of grueling, all-day rehearsals to blend their individual talents into a cohesive, powerhouse ensemble before taking the stage on Saturday.
"We are incredibly proud of Jackson’s dedication and artistry," said Michael Murphy, Band Director at Biddeford High School. "To audition, prepare this difficult music independently, and then come together with peers from across the state to put on a world-class performance in just two days is a massive achievement. Jackson represented our community beautifully."
The Maine All-State Music Festival is sponsored annually by the Maine Music Educators Association (MMEA) to promote and celebrate the highest levels of musical excellence in the state's public and private schools.
